    this reminds me of the time when my teacher said the led zeppelin's stairway to heaven was originaly a poem, then the music was added later. i said, "um, i dont think that is correct. i actually believe that its the other way around..." then she yelled, "NO, NO!! stairway to heaven is a POEM!!!"

    On the other hand, you don't want a teacher like the kid, who won't accept the way things are (or are not, as it turns out). My science teacher contradicted the text book. We believed her and were all marked wrong by another teacher correcting our exam.

    If I was this boy's mother, I would have told that teacher to suck it, and that my son would not be going to her detention. A student should never "accept a teaching" if it's wrong. **** that teacher.

    This teacher should get a taste of their own medicine... give them enough gas for a two km trip to [INSERT DESIRABLE DESTINATION], when the place is actually two miles away. Challenge all authority. If detention's the worst they can throw at you, throw knowledge at them. Dictionaries hurt.

    That teacher is such a bitch. He/She says that the kid was right and the teacher was wrong, but says that he should never question a teacher's knowledge ever again. I'd be so pissed if this happened and if I were the kid's parent I would fight it.
